Abstract artist painting Sylvain Martin biography

Originally from Paris, Sylvain Martin lived in Poland and the United States before settling in Montreal in 2004. Holder of an MBA, he worked for 15 years in management and marketing. Art first illuminated his life in music. Pianist and keyboardist since childhood, he composed and launched in 2022, under the name Voyager, a first electronic music album entitled Paris Montreal. Modern art entered his life during an exhibition by Dan Flavin in the early 2000s and the amateur practice of photography has always been part of his life.

In 2013, he was offered a small box containing a mini 8×10” canvas, a brush and 3 colors by an amateur painter friend, Jean Benoit Aubé, to whom he asked many questions. Sylvain Martin will not open this box until 7 years later, then about to get rid of it! This is how he discovered painting in 2020 during the pandemic. And…it’s love at first sight.

Self-taught, he organizes his life to leave management and become a full-time painter in 2022. Very inspired by abstract and contemporary art, in particular not the work of Kupka, Meurice or Halley, he paints every day. On November 18, 2022, he participated in his first collective exhibition entitled “Portal” organized by RAW Canada at the Paradox Theater. Also, he begins to distribute his work in galleries in Montreal at Hang’Art, and on online platforms.

In 2023, with the aim of contributing to the Montreal artistic world and becoming more rooted in it, he became a supporting member of the organization Art Cible in Montreal, which works to support emerging artists in the visual arts. A collaboration is also planned for the fall with ArtXterra, an entity that helps artists from the Francophonie to professionalize. While seeking to disseminate his art through symposiums (these are planned for this year in Laval, Candiac and Quebec), in exhibitions (selected at the Salon des Artistes organized by the Galerie Lenoir) and in galleries.
